Resistance

You are never as alone as you think.

When I came back to the US from Finland, I was so mad and so worried and I found no spaces with nuance. Both sides said “bomb them to bits.”
And then I saw a poster for Standing Together.

I thought I was alone as a Jew at the Graduate Center, and that everyone who was Jewish there would be pro-Palestine (re: some signs I’d seen, which are/will be here in the archive).
And then I was sent the information for United Against Terrorism. Israel on Campus Coalition. Taking Action: Israelis in Academia.

I thought, being Queer, that I would never find a space to exist because I’m Jewish. Even before the war, I got messages on Lex, responding to me taking a selfie by an Israeli flag, saying “Was interested until I saw you’re a Zionist.” Okay?
I went to my favorite Lesbian bar, and as I went in to kiss someone, they saw my magen David and asked, “Free Palestine?”
I said, “Er, no. At least not like American Leftists are doing it.”
They kissed me anyway.
Weeks later, I came across a sticker for Queers Against Antisemitism.
Hey, aren’t we seeing that graff really works? Sick!

And yet, we cannot do everything. We are small in numbers, and we have targets on our backs.

Sometimes, a friend messages you and says “I’m staying the fuck inside today.”
When your family that was in Bergen Belsen texts you and tells you to not go to protests, you listen. When your Israeli friend says goodbye to you with, “Be careful supporting Israel right now,” you listen.

But you, Jew reading this: you are not alone. We are not alone. We are cheering in bars at Eurovision, and we are taking down their hateful stickers on 86th St. We have lived 4,000 years, and we will live 4,000 more. And finally, I say: NEVER AGAIN. FOR ALL OF US. Jewish and Palestinian. We are both indigenous to this land, and we are not fucking going anywhere.

Below, you’ll see a lot of graff work that I’ve done over some vile shit, for the most part. Captions will be added in time.

Jews and Christians standing outside of the Graduate Center, CUNY, with posters saying “We stand with Israel,” “Are you really backing a terrorist organization right now?” and “Christians and Jews united against hate.”
